Facilitating Difficult Conversations

True diversity and inclusion efforts cannot exist without an understanding of the need to foster effective communication around difficult topics. In order to truly come together collaboratively and cohesively, team members must be able to have productive conversations around topics that affect their ability to form trusting relationships.

In this session, we will discuss the importance of a role that subconscious bias plays in our interactions and outline specific action steps that can be taken to create safe environments where team members can feel to discuss various issues (such as racism and privilege). It is vitally important to create an atmosphere where no one feels marginalized or attacked, while at the same time ensuring that everyone as a voice.

This session will provide tips and strategies to assist participants in their quest to create nurturing, supportive, authentic and truthful communities where people feel empowered to speak.

As a result of this session, participants will be able to:
  1. Understand the role of subconscious bias in their communication and interactions
  2. Develop an understanding of the role that our experiences and backgrounds play in our biases
  3. Develop effective strategies to create inclusive, supportive and empowering communities
  4. Create an outline of strategies to be used in their workplace that will support open dialogue
